Indigenous and local knowledge to develop new biodiversity assessments

24/06 2020

The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is inviting indigenous peoples and local communities from all over the world to support three ongoing IPBES assessments:

  • The assessment of the sustainable use of wild species
  • The assessment on diverse conceptualisations of multiple values of nature
  • The assessment of invasive alien species

The call for contributions is part of the activities undertaken by IPBES to implement an approach to recognize and work with indigenous and local knowledge, giving IPBES an ambitious and ground-breaking process for bringing indigenous and local knowledge to the core of large-scale assessments. Your contribution will help the authors to reflect the role of indigenous and local knowledge, practices, values and actions in biodiversity conservation, as well as current challenges and ways forward in the assessment – through the assessments, this information can be brought to the attention of policy-makers.

Deadline for nominations: 10 July 2020
